GRADUATION PROJECT

AURORA
DESIGNER PROJECT
GRADUATION PROJECT
The graduation project is undertaken by all final year students in which they attach to a particular industry for a period of 16 weeks to work on a design collection. Students work on specific projects or briefs given by the company, which allows the students to put into practice his/her learning as per actual industry requirements and expectations. I collaborated with a clothing label "Priya Agarwal" based in Bangalore, India and worked on developing a design collection.
This project takes its inspiration from the structure and formation of Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis. It is a natural light display in the Earth's sky, which is seen in high-latitude regions. This natural phenomenon showers display of coloured lights shimmering across the night sky. When the northern lights come out, beautiful, colourful patterns stretch across the night sky. This concept is to be incorporated into party wear where the wearer will be the centre of attention in a party. The collection is centered on the theme and concept of the northern lights and its existence. The lights appear in many forms from patches or scattered clouds of light to streamers, arcs, or shooting rays that light up the skies. The shapes and structures of the aurora are interesting and beautiful.
The colours has been taken from the inspiration. Colours having dark and striking effect , such as shades of bright turquoise green and dark blues are taken.
The final designs were produced on handloom by interacting with handloom weavers from the province of Hyderabad in India to develop 5 handloom "ikat" designs on silk-cotton fabric material spread across 75 meters.
